What are Alliances?

Alliances are a group of kingdoms which have chosen to band together and operate as a group.

They are not officially endorsed by the game creator or maintainers, and may be disdained by other players, however they are tolerated as a "necessary evil".

Purpose of Alliances

The first organized alliances rose as defense against "unofficial" alliances (not public, just friends working together etc) or multies. Some of those Alliances were formed as a result of the game makers decision to breakup the Kingdoms in the early ages (affectionately known by some players as the Great Kingdom Split around age 3 or 4) designed to allow people the chance to play with and get to know other people the players in the game. Through the ages however alliances have also formed for a variety of other reasons from almost purely social, often nationality-based ones, via educational ones, to defensive ones whose main purpose is to defend their members against "unfair play", and finally to offensive ones who actively use their alliance to gain advantages over others. They often employ tactics that single kingdoms can not use, such as overwhelming an opponent by outnumbering them. The mechanism for the game eventually changed and current ages are allowed to invite friends to join them in their Kingdoms.
