The Undead carry a rare disease known simply as The Plague. Any time your army meets an infected army from another kingdom, you risk contracting it. The Undead are highly contagious, and spread the plague easily, whereas the chances of contracting it from any other race are greatly diminished.

The Plague cannot be spread between provinces in the same kingdom. Additionally, The Undead are immune to the effects of the Plague but always carry it, while Shepherds are immune to contracting it at all.

The plague has the following penalties:

  • No Population Growth
  • 15% Lower Tax Collection
  • 15% Lower Defensive Military Effectiveness
  • 10% mortality rate in prisons per day

The plague can be cured with Hospitals and lasts no more than 1 Utopian Month with zero Hospitals unless it is contracted again before it wears off. The Nature's Blessing spell also has a chance of curing the plague from all your lands.
